TEACHER RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Become a transformational education leader by spending 12 months at an International School in Germany

Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation in partnership with the International School Stuttgart (ISS) invites school teachers from Bosnia & Herzegovina for the second year in a row to apply for a 12-month paid teacher residency program in Stuttgart, Germany. A highly motivated teacher from Bosnia & Herzegovina will have the opportunity to spend 12 months teaching and learning in a highly innovative environment with the intention of bringing the knowledge and best practices home to advance the education ecosystem in their local school and community.

ISS operates from Kindergarten through grade 12 on campuses in the Degerloch (main and original campus) and Sindelfingen areas of Stuttgart organized on the International Baccalaureate program. The school is home to a co-educational, multi-cultural student body of over 820 students from over 45 countries.

The International School of Stuttgart is approved and accredited by the European Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and recognized by the state government of Baden-Württemberg. ISS is a member of the Association of German International Schools and the Council of International Schools.

Introductory Experience:
Residents may begin their Program working within our ISS Summer Camp.

Responsibilities include:

• Serving as Lead Instructors

• Working with the Summer Director to develop and implement summer curriculum and program

• Guiding activities and field trips

The intent is for the Residents to get to know one another and the area whilst working with summer students, many of which will return for our Academic Year.

Academic Residency:

Once the academic year begins, Residents will work with the Teacher Residency

Coordinator, and will be expected to:

• Participate in an IB-professional development program on a weekly basis , including

  • International Mindedness o Approaches to Learning and Teaching

  • Approaches to Assessment o Student Support/Differentiation

  • Coherent Curriculum and Planning

  • Communication & Relationship building

• Collaborate with an ISS Mentor Teacher

• Collaborate with their fellow Resident Teachers

• Co-Teach an equivalent of at least three hours a week in a specific division

  • U.S. Residents: Single Subject MYP class

  • L.S. Residents: 3 hrs Unit or Specialist class time per week

• Serve as a Substitute Teacher for upt to, but no more than 24 hours per work week

• Support student management outside of class time (e.g., playground and lunch duties)

• Take on an extracurricular commitment such as Duke of Edinburgh, coaching, theatre, arts etc.

• Contribute individual areas of expertise (computer skills, sports, outdoor activities, love of books… etc.) to strengthen the learning opportunities in school life.

Professional Expectations

• A recently completed certification in early years, primary, or secondary education is an advantage

• Alignment with our values related to character, competence, and caring

• A desire to actively support, challenge, and inspire our learning community

• Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of children and young people.

• Display commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people

• Value and respect the views and needs of children and young people
