From Mentorship to Impact: BHFF Community Brings Game Theory and Behavioral Economics to the University of Sarajevo

The Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation (BHFF) continues to demonstrate the power of mentorship and community-driven impact through a recent academic event held at the University of Sarajevo. What began as a mentorship connection evolved into an inspiring lecture that bridged international expertise with local academic excellence.

The initiative was led by BHFF Senior Scholar Ilma Hodžić, who organized a guest lecture featuring BHFF mentor Mirza Čardaklija. Through this collaboration, students at the University of Sarajevo had the opportunity to engage with real-world applications of game theory and behavioral economics—fields that are increasingly shaping modern business and decision-making.

Mirza Čardaklija, whose professional career involves extensive international consultancy work, described the experience as one of his personal highlights of the year. Returning to Sarajevo and speaking in front of students brought a strong sense of connection and purpose. Blending academic theory with practical business insights, and seamlessly switching between English and Bosnian, he created an engaging and dynamic learning environment for attendees.

The lecture focused on how strategic thinking and behavioral economics can be applied in business contexts, offering students a perspective that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. By sharing practical examples and global experiences, Mirza Čardaklija highlighted the importance of critical thinking, adaptability, and understanding human behavior in today’s economy.

For Ilma Hodžić, the event carried a special significance. Her interest in behavioral economics was first sparked during her studies, making this initiative both a professional and personal milestone. Through her efforts, mentorship extended beyond one-on-one guidance and into a broader academic setting, impacting an entire group of students.

The realization of this event was also made possible with the support of Prof. Merima Cinjarević, whose openness and dedication to academic enrichment played a key role in bringing the idea to life. Her continued support of innovative learning experiences reflects the importance of collaboration between academia and professionals.

Mentorship in Action

This event stands as a powerful example of how BHFF’s mentorship program creates real, tangible impact. What started as a mentor–mentee relationship between Ilma Hodžić and Mirza Čardaklija evolved into an opportunity to inspire an entire academic community.

Through the BHFF mentorship program, scholars gain not only guidance and support but also access to a global network of professionals who are eager to give back. In this case, mentorship went beyond personal development—it became a platform for knowledge transfer, inspiration, and community engagement.

By bringing global expertise into local classrooms, BHFF mentors and scholars are actively shaping the next generation of leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This initiative highlights the true value of mentorship: empowering individuals to grow, connect, and create opportunities not only for themselves, but for others around them.

By bringing global knowledge back home and investing in future generations, BHFF scholars and mentors continue to contribute to the development of a stronger, more innovative, and globally competitive Bosnia and Herzegovina.
