BHFF Senior Scholar Sara Presents Research at the PrimSeedPower Conference
BHFF Senior Scholar Sara participated in the PrimSeedPower Conference, held on June 16th and 17th in Sarajevo, where she presented her research and engaged with researchers and professionals in the field of plant science and environmental sustainability.
The PrimSeedPower Conference serves as a platform for scientists and young researchers to explore contemporary challenges in sustainable agriculture, exchange ideas, and present innovative approaches to plant science and climate resilience.
Through her research, “Upcycling Organic Lemon Peel Waste: Seed Priming Benefits vs. Aquatic Toxicity Risks in Artemia salina,” Sara focused on exploring the potential of organic waste as a natural solution in agriculture. Her work emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices, critical evaluation of bio-based products, and balancing agricultural benefits with environmental safety.
Conducted in collaboration with mentors and professors from the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo (PMF): Muhamed Fočak, Sabina Dahija, Erna Karalija, and Arnela Demir, the study examined the effects of lemon peel extract on plant growth using Lactuca sativa, as well as its potential toxicity on aquatic organisms using Artemia salina. The findings demonstrated that lower concentrations can enhance seed germination and early growth, while higher concentrations may pose risks to aquatic life, highlighting the importance of controlled application.
During the conference, Sara had the opportunity to present her findings, receive feedback from experts, and engage in meaningful discussions on sustainable innovation in agriculture. Her research contributed to the broader scientific dialogue on waste valorization and environmentally responsible solutions.
Participation in this conference allowed Sara to further develop her research, communication, and analytical skills, while gaining insight into current challenges and advancements in plant science and environmental protection.
Her involvement at the PrimSeedPower Conference reflects the ongoing commitment of BHFF Senior Scholars to academic excellence and active participation in international scientific communities, where interdisciplinary collaboration drives progress in sustainability and science.
