BHFF Alumni Dino Burić Moderates Panel Discussion at FIT Coding Challenge

BHFF Alumni Dino Burić participated in this year’s FIT Coding Challenge, where he moderated a panel discussion focused on one of the most pressing questions for students entering the IT industry: what do companies really look for when hiring interns?

The panel, titled “Diploma, Certificate, or Portfolio?”, explored the gap between formal education and practical experience, addressing the challenges students face when applying for their first professional opportunities. Through an open and insightful discussion, the panelists examined the importance of technical knowledge, personal projects, and the often overlooked role of soft skills in the hiring process.

The discussion also shed light on less visible aspects of recruitment, including the role of recommendations and informal networks in securing opportunities. By addressing these realities, the panel created space for a more transparent conversation about the pathways available to young professionals entering the field.

A key takeaway highlighted during the session was that a significant number of students are still waiting for their first internship opportunity. This reflects not a lack of talent, but rather a need for greater recognition of potential among early-career candidates. The conversation emphasized the importance of companies looking beyond formal credentials and providing opportunities for individuals to develop through real-world experience.

Alongside moderating the discussion, Dino engaged with industry professionals and participants, contributing to a broader dialogue on how to better connect education with the demands of the job market.

In recognition of his academic excellence, Dino was also awarded the Dean’s Award for achieving an outstanding GPA of 9.90 in the 2024/25 academic year, marking an important milestone in his academic journey.

His involvement in the FIT Coding Challenge reflects the continued impact of BHFF alumni in fostering meaningful conversations, supporting young talent, and contributing to the development of future professionals in the IT sector.
