BHFF Alumni and Senior Fellow Scholars Explore the Future of AI at Kiss the Future Summit

Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, changing how professionals approach their work, and challenging the way we learn and develop new skills. At the Kiss the Future Summit, BHFF Alumni Lejla Nezirović, Aiša Bečić, and Mirsad Čajić, together with BHFF Senior Fellow Scholar Nudžejma Kantić, had the opportunity to explore these developments and hear directly from professionals building and implementing emerging technologies.

The summit brought together experts, technology enthusiasts, and industry representatives to discuss the future of software engineering, the practical applications of AI, and the challenges of integrating new technologies into established systems.

Rethinking the Role of Software Engineers in the Age of AI

For BHFF Alumna Lejla Nezirović, one of the most valuable aspects of the summit was the discussion about how artificial intelligence is transforming software engineering.

As AI tools and agents become increasingly capable of generating code, the role of software engineers is evolving beyond writing code toward a broader engineering mindset. Understanding system architecture, evaluating different implementation approaches, maintaining code quality, and taking responsibility for technical decisions are becoming increasingly important.

Lejla also highlighted the importance of using AI tools thoughtfully and critically. As technology advances, professionals must learn not only how to use these tools but also how to ask the right questions, evaluate their outputs, and remain in control of the systems they build.

One of the panels that particularly interested her focused on AI in the telecommunications industry. Speakers shared real-world examples of how AI is being used to optimize networks, reduce energy consumption, improve customer experience, and modernize legacy systems.

The discussions also emphasized that optimizing one part of a system does not necessarily optimize the entire system. A broader understanding of architecture and the relationships between interconnected components remains essential.

For Lejla, the summit provided an opportunity to connect her formal education with real-world industry challenges and gain a clearer perspective on the skills she should continue developing.

Exploring the Practical Applications of AI

BHFF Alumna Aiša Bečić, a computing and informatics student interested in expanding her knowledge of artificial intelligence, spent the summit at the Engineering Stage.

One of her highlights was the Hugging Face workshop on LeRobot, which demonstrated how accessible tools are making it possible for more people to experiment with physical AI and robotics.

She also particularly enjoyed the panel on scaling AI in enterprise environments, where representatives from companies including Bloomteq, Palfinger, Xplor, Supabase, and Cursor discussed what it takes to move AI solutions beyond prototypes and integrate them into real business operations.

For Aiša, hearing from professionals working with these technologies offered a valuable perspective on how AI is applied in practice, beyond the theoretical concepts encountered through formal education.

The experience helped her better understand how companies are using emerging technologies and identify areas she would like to explore further as she continues developing her skills.

From AI in Robotics to Energy and Manufacturing

BHFF Alumnus Mirsad Čajić also attended sessions across the summit, with a particular interest in the Engineering Stage and the applications of AI in robotics.

Although he found some of the first day's presentations less engaging, the Hugging Face session stood out for its exploration of AI-powered robotics. One particularly interesting topic was how neural networks can be trained using real-world video footage, opening up possibilities for teaching robots to interpret and respond to their environments.

On the second day, Mirsad explored sessions at the Energy and Manufacturing Stage, where the discussions offered a different perspective on how technology can be applied across industrial sectors.

His experience reflected the value of events that bring together different areas of technological development, from AI and robotics to the systems and industries that may benefit from their implementation.

Learning From the People Shaping the Future

For BHFF Alumni Lejla Nezirović, Aiša Bečić, and Mirsad Čajić, and BHFF Senior Fellow Scholar Nudžejma Kantić, the Kiss the Future Summit offered an opportunity to engage with current industry discussions, discover practical applications of AI, and gain new perspectives on the future of technology.

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, experiences like these help students and young professionals connect their learning with real-world challenges, reflect on the skills they need to develop, and better understand the responsibilities that come with building and implementing new technologies.

Through their participation in events that connect education, innovation, and industry, BHFF Scholars and Alumni continue exploring new ideas and preparing to contribute to a rapidly changing technological landscape.
