IEEE & BH Futures Foundation at University of Mostar

No matter where we go, we always make sure we visit local university campuses. There was no difference this time. Eddie Custovic (IEEE Chair for Industry and Founder of the BH Futures Foundation) & Haris Selmanovic (Student representative in the IEEE BiH Section and BH Futures Foundation Board Member visited “Sveuciliste Mostar - University of Mostar” and ran a 4 hour workshop “Developing yourself through IEEE & BH Futures Foundation”.

A small group of students had the opportunity to hear about the IEEE, the world’s largest professional organisation and BH Futures Foundation the fastest growing foundation in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Students also worked on project proposals that will be implemented in the coming months with the help of both organisations. Find out more by reading the article.

Students were blown away by the opportunities IEEE & BH Futures Foundation provides for students and young professionals.

“There are so many opportunities for us, I really didn’t know about any of them. I am so glad I had a chance to be here today,” said one of the student attendees.

Haris provided a unique perspective on the opportunities as he is still a student in Tuzla but has had so many experiences in recent times. Haris has undertaken two major international trips to Melbourne, Australia and Tampa, USA. He explained to students how important it was for them to grasp every chance to prove themselves. “You will be recognised for your hard work and good attitude to informal learning,” says Haris.

In the 4 hour workshops student were run through an exercise to help them better understand their own passion/interests and how to align them with the mission and vision of the IEEE & BH Futures Foundation. When students identified these, they are able to work on project ideas that tick all of the boxes.

The BH Futures Foundation will coach the students in their project ideas:

  1. Development of a smart park bench which will see students from civil engineering and electrical engineering working together in Mostar.

  2. Research into novel air conditioning units to help with pollution in Sarajevo

  3. A scientific trip to Banja Luka from Sarajevo that will see a consortium from different cities working together to visit the CMBEBiH conference

  4. A student from Konjic will work with a student in Tuzla to develop a series of events that will allows students to address some of the major mental health issues in Bosnia & Herzegovina

Eddie Custovic also promised to personally cover the costs of IEEE membership for those who were not members currently. We want to jump start your career, so join us.
