What can a filmmaker’s career teach us about how we see Bosnia and Herzegovina, its stories and the world around us?

Sometimes, seeing something differently starts with simply looking closer.

At Futures Leaders Summit 2026, we are bringing Harun Mehmedinović to Sarajevo as one of our Main Keynote speakers.

A Bosnian filmmaker, cinematographer and producer based in the United States, Harun has built a career at the intersection of film, science, music and visual storytelling. His work has taken him from some of the world’s most recognisable natural landscapes to stories shaped by science, climate and human experience.

Among his projects is Ice on Fire, which he co produced and filmed with Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as the IMAX film Grand Canyon: Rivers of Time.

His short film In the Name of the Son, inspired by the Bosnian genocide, received more than 30 international awards and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film.

His creative journey has also included collaborations with artists such as The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, Paul Simon and John Mayer, alongside contributions to platforms including National Geographic, BBC Earth and TIME.

Yet Harun’s story is about more than a list of projects, awards and collaborations.

It is also about what happens when someone carries a connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina into a global career and uses storytelling to explore places, people and questions that matter.

That is exactly the kind of exchange we want to create at FLS.
