Passion Project: "Stop Doomscrolling Until 3 AM"
On April 11th, 2026, a workshop focused on digital wellbeing and conscious media consumption was organized as a Passion Project by BH Futures Foundation Scholars.
Recognizing a challenge that affects both themselves and their peers, the team addressed the issue of constant exposure to negative online content and its uncontrolled consumption. With the aim of raising awareness about the importance of a healthier relationship with digital content, as well as more mindful time management online, they chose this topic as the focus of their project.
The workshop, titled “Stop Doomscrolling Until 3 AM,” was held in Tuzla and gathered students and young people interested in reflecting on their digital habits and improving their daily routines.
About the Project Concept
The project was designed to explore the growing phenomenon of “doomscrolling” — the habit of endlessly consuming negative or overwhelming online content, often late into the night.
By addressing this issue, the organizers aimed to encourage participants to become more aware of how digital content influences their mood, focus, and overall mental wellbeing. The workshop emphasized the importance of balance, self-awareness, and intentional use of technology.
Workshop Structure and Experience
The session was designed as an interactive and open space for discussion, allowing participants to share their thoughts, experiences, and personal challenges related to excessive online consumption.
Through guided conversations and practical activities, participants explored the underlying causes of doomscrolling, including stress, procrastination, and the addictive nature of digital platforms. The workshop also addressed the impact of such habits on concentration, emotional state, and mental health.
In addition, participants were introduced to strategies for managing screen time more effectively, building healthier routines, and creating boundaries with digital content.
The atmosphere of the workshop was supportive and reflective, encouraging honest dialogue and mutual understanding among participants.
Mentorship and Organization
The project was organized by the Futures Change team, composed of BHFF Junior Scholars: Sara Hinović, Kristina Josipović, Emir Halilović, Ismail Burajić, and Nejra Smajlović.
Throughout the process, the team demonstrated strong awareness of a relevant social issue, as well as dedication to creating a meaningful and impactful experience for their peers.
The project was developed under the mentorship of BHFF Senior Scholar Demir Halilbašić, whose guidance supported the team in shaping and delivering the workshop.
Impact and Takeaways
This Passion Project highlighted the importance of digital wellbeing in today’s fast-paced, highly connected world. Participants left the workshop with a deeper understanding of their own habits, as well as practical tools to improve their relationship with technology.
By creating a safe space for discussion and self-reflection, the project contributed to raising awareness about a topic that is often overlooked, yet highly relevant to young people.
Looking Ahead
The success of this workshop demonstrates the value of student-led initiatives in addressing real and relatable challenges within their communities. By focusing on mental health and digital balance, the Futures Change team contributed to promoting awareness, resilience, and personal growth among their peers.
