Vera Šnajder Award Winner Lejla Hrustemović at AIME 2025
This initiative is made possible with the support of dmBiH, as part of the company’s continuous efforts to promote gender equality and female entrepreneurship. By supporting the Vera Šnajder Award, dm aims to empower women in the local community and labor market, emphasizing the importance of education and youth empowerment to build a better society.
The AIME 2025 Conference was a truly special event for Lejla, a dedicated BH Futures Foundation volunteer. It marked 40 years since the first AIME conference held in Pavia in 1985. With the support of the University of Pavia, one of the world’s oldest academic institutions, this year’s edition brought together global experts, researchers, and students to explore how Artificial Intelligence is transforming healthcare.
Among the participants was Lejla Hrustemović, recipient of the Vera Šnajder Award, supported by BH Futures Foundation and dmBiH. Thanks to this award, she had the opportunity to attend the conference and shared her reflections:
“It was such a pleasure to be part of something with so much history and success behind it. AIME’25, held from June 23rd to 26th, covered a wide variety of topics, sparked engaging discussions, and raised the standards of professionalism throughout. The organization was exceptional.”
One of the highlights for Lejla was the Gala Dinner, a vibrant networking event set in a beautiful Italian villa:
“That evening helped me grow out of my comfort zone. I had the chance to meet people from all around the world—Mexico, USA, Canada, Japan, China. Everyone was so friendly and driven by a common goal: to improve human healthcare by utilizing AI in the best possible way.”
Throughout the conference, topics such as data privacy and the integration of AI in medical practice sparked intense interest:
“AI models require access to patient data, which brings up many ethical and legal questions. Will future doctors need to understand how AI works to use it effectively? Will the entire educational system need to adapt? How exactly are LLMs providing recommendations for treatment?”
Lejla emphasized how much she gained from the experience:
“By attending poster sessions, workshops, and keynotes, I learned so much and found new areas of interest in the evolving field of AI in medicine. I connected with amazing people and I hope to meet them again in the future.”
She concludes with a message of gratitude:
“I’m truly grateful to BHFF and dm for enabling me to be part of this experience. It broadened my horizons, both personally and professionally.”
Starting August 1st, we open applications for the next iteration of the Vera Šnajder Award, a recognition dedicated to empowering exceptional young women in STEM. We are proud to share that dmBiH is once again supporting this initiative, continuing their commitment to gender equality, youth development, and a more inclusive future. With their support, we look forward to discovering and uplifting a new generation of female leaders who will shape the future of science, technology, and society.
