"A Right, Not a Privilege" – Students in Brčko Advocate for Universal Child Allowance
On April 11th, 2025, the Youth Center Brčko hosted a powerful event that highlighted the voice of youth advocating for social change. Students from class III-6 of the Agricultural and Medical High School Brčko organized a public presentation to promote their initiative: "A Right, Not a Privilege – Child Allowance for All Children."
Advocating for Equality
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of establishing a universal child allowance for all children up to the age of 18, regardless of socioeconomic background. The students emphasized that this allowance should not be treated as a privilege available only through social welfare systems, but rather as a basic right for every child.
Community Support and Engagement
The presentation was open to all high schools and citizens of Brčko, with the goal of sparking a wider dialogue about child welfare and the systemic support needed to ensure equal opportunities for all. Attendees included students and professors from two local high schools, as well as engaged citizens who showed strong interest in the topic.
The initiative received media support through the BDC Info portal and promotional posters, helping spread the word across the local community.
BH Futures Foundation: Empowering Youth Voices
BH Futures Foundation proudly supported this initiative, recognizing the courage and determination of these young advocates. During the event, foundation representatives Asja Spahalić and Merjema Behlulović held a short presentation about the foundation’s mission, ongoing programs, and opportunities available to youth across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Their presence not only showcased BH Futures Foundation’s commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives but also encouraged attendees to think broader about how young people can shape their futures with the right support and platforms.
