Scholar Meliha Džindo attends two day earthquake engineering training in Zagreb

Our junior scholar Meliha Džindo had the opportunity to attend a highly specialised course in earthquake engineering at the University of Zagreb. Meliha is from Tuzla and student of Civil Engineering & Construction at International Burch University.

The two day training was run by global expert in earthquake engineering, Prof. Amr Elnashai from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. Prof. Elnashai is a renown expert and fellow of the royal academy of engineering.

The training consisted of a total of 16 hours of lectures, workshops, simulations and open discussion covering topics such as Earthquake Structural Dynamics, Characteristics of Earthquakes, Causes and Measurement, Effects on Infrastructure, Structural Modelling and Analysis, Case studies and modelling to name a few.

The course was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as academics and industry professionals. The organization of the course by the Croatian Center for Earthquake Engineering attracted a diverse range of participants from the field.

My experience in Zagreb was exceptional, although it was limited due to exams. Nevertheless, I managed to celebrate my birthday in a special way. As a young student, I’m open to future engagements in the field. The professor’s lectures have changed my perspective on the engineering profession and enriched my knowledge and outlook for future challenges.
