A Journey of Growth: BHFF Alumnus Mirsad Čajić Builds Embedded Engineering Experience at Semblie

For BHFF Alumnus Mirsad Čajić, 10 months at Semblie became an opportunity to move beyond university theory and gain hands-on experience in embedded engineering.

From the beginning, Mirsad was welcomed into a supportive team that understood his commitments as a college student. The flexibility of his schedule allowed him to balance his academic responsibilities while gaining practical experience in a professional engineering environment.

What made the experience particularly meaningful was the level of trust he received from the very start. Rather than being limited to assisting with small tasks, Mirsad was given a real embedded systems project and the opportunity to follow the development process from the initial idea all the way to designing his own printed circuit board (PCB).

From Concept to PCB Design

Working on a real project allowed Mirsad to experience the different stages of embedded systems development firsthand.

With guidance from his mentors, he developed practical skills in reading datasheets, working with electronics, and using KiCad, a complete PCB design program. At the same time, he was able to apply concepts from university that he had not expected to encounter in a real-world engineering environment.

The experience helped him build a stronger foundation in embedded engineering while demonstrating how academic knowledge can translate into practical technical work.

Learning Through Mentorship

Mentorship played an important role throughout Mirsad's experience at Semblie. Having experienced mentors available to guide him through the development process allowed him to learn not only individual technical skills, but also how an engineering project develops from an initial concept into a working system.

The combination of trust, guidance, and hands-on responsibility gave Mirsad the opportunity to learn by actually building.

The Next Stage of the Project

Mirsad's project is not yet finished. The next stage will begin once the PCB arrives, when he plans to assemble it and program the system.

He also plans to develop an app that will become part of the complete system, allowing him to continue working across multiple aspects of the project and further expand his technical experience.

From University Knowledge to Real-World Engineering

Looking back on his 10 months at Semblie, Mirsad describes the experience as an important period of growth.

The opportunity to work on a genuine embedded systems project, receive mentorship, design a PCB, and apply university concepts in practice gave him a stronger understanding of what working in embedded engineering can look like.

His experience also highlights the value of creating opportunities for students to take on meaningful responsibilities early in their careers. With the right combination of trust, mentorship, and practical work, academic knowledge can become the foundation for building real engineering skills.

As Mirsad continues developing his project and expanding his technical knowledge, his time at Semblie represents another step in his journey toward becoming an embedded engineer.
