Passion Project: “Think Pink Workshop – Raising Awareness on Breast Cancer Prevention”

On May 21st, 2026, a student-led workshop addressing the importance of breast cancer awareness and prevention was organized at the Third Gymnasium Sarajevo as part of a Passion Project.

Titled “Think Pink Workshop”, the event aimed to educate high school students on one of the most significant public health challenges, emphasizing the importance of early detection, prevention, and informed health behavior from a young age.

The workshop gathered students of the Third Gymnasium Sarajevo, creating a space where important health topics could be discussed in an accessible, engaging, and youth-friendly manner.

About the Project Concept

The Futures Care project was designed to raise awareness about breast cancer through education and open dialogue. Recognizing that early awareness plays a crucial role in prevention, the team focused on equipping students with practical knowledge that can contribute to long-term health outcomes.

Through this workshop, participants were introduced to key concepts such as risk factors, methods of early detection, and the importance of regular self-examinations. The project emphasized that awareness is the first step toward prevention and that young people have an important role in spreading accurate health information within their communities.

Team and Organization

Think Pink Workshop was organized by the student team Futures Care, composed of dedicated Junior Scholars Merima Glušac and Amela Smolo, who worked collaboratively to bring this initiative to life.

The project was developed under the mentorship of Senior Scholar Sajra Agić, whose guidance supported the team throughout the entire process—from the initial idea to the successful realization of the workshop.

Together, the team demonstrated how student-led initiatives can create meaningful educational experiences and contribute to raising awareness on critical health issues.

Speakers and Workshop Delivery

The workshop was led by Hena Gojak and Nejra Šaljić, medical students at the University of Sarajevo and members of BoHeMSA Sarajevo, who delivered an engaging and informative presentation.

Through their session, they clearly and effectively presented methods of breast cancer prevention and early recognition, ensuring that the content was both scientifically accurate and easily understandable for a younger audience.

Their interactive approach encouraged student participation and created an environment where questions and discussion were welcomed.

Mentorship and Support

The successful realization of this project was made possible through the mentorship and support of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Futures Foundation.

Mentorship played a key role in empowering the team to transform their idea into a well-structured and impactful workshop, highlighting the importance of guidance in student-led initiatives.

Looking Ahead
