Encouraging Girls to Dream Big: Girls’ Day 2026

Every girl deserves the opportunity to explore her talents, pursue ambitious ideas and see herself shaping the future. This belief underpins BH Futures Foundation’s longstanding support for Girls’ Day, an initiative that introduces young women to opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

On 29 October 2026, the ninth edition of Girls’ Day brought high school and university students together at the Croatian Cultural Centre “Sveti Franjo” in Tuzla. Organised by the Foundation for Innovation, Technology and Knowledge Transfer (FITT), the event combined inspiring conversations with practical workshops, giving participants space to ask questions, experiment and discover new interests.

BH Futures Foundation proudly continued its support for the initiative, with our founder, Dr Edhem Čustović, also attending to encourage the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators.

Women shaping the future

The panel discussion, “Women Shaping the Future,” featured Professor Senka Krivić, an artificial intelligence researcher at the University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and Lejla Mujakić, a biologist and doctoral researcher at the University of Tuzla. They shared their experiences in research and education, offering participants insight into different career paths and the challenges and opportunities along the way.

A particular highlight was the contribution of Arabela Salihbegović and Monika Ostojić, students at JU Mješovita srednja elektrotehnička škola Tuzla. Joining the panel, they presented a project focused on redesigning part of a satellite to help reduce space debris.

Their confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm demonstrated how much young people can contribute when encouraged to explore ambitious problems. Addressing a challenge that reaches beyond our planet, these students offered their peers a powerful example of what curiosity and determination can inspire.

Turning curiosity into experience

Alongside the panel, participants explored electronics, programming, app development and career planning through practical workshops. These activities connected the stories they heard with opportunities to test their own ideas, learn new skills and consider future educational and professional choices.

The programme showed that a first step into STEM can begin with a question, a small experiment or a conversation with someone whose journey makes a new possibility feel within reach.

A lasting commitment to girls and women

At BH Futures Foundation, we believe that encouraging girls to dream must go hand in hand with providing opportunities to pursue those dreams. Through scholarships, mentoring, professional networks and access to educational experiences, we support young women as they build their skills, confidence and careers.

Our longstanding involvement in Girls’ Day reflects that commitment. Connecting girls with women working in science and technology—and with talented students already developing their own solutions—helps them imagine a place for themselves in these fields.

We congratulate FITT, the speakers, workshop leaders and fellow partners on another successful Girls’ Day. Above all, we celebrate the young women who participated, asked questions and shared their ideas.

To every girl considering a future in STEM: your curiosity matters, your ideas deserve to be heard, and your ambitions deserve support.
